AMV Design

Architecture and interior design in Montenegro.

Apartment interior design in Montenegro starts at €35/m², excluding VAT, at AMV Design. At that starting rate, the calculation is €1,750 for 50 m², €2,450 for 70 m² and €3,500 for 100 m². These figures cover the design service, not furnishing or construction. Materials, furniture, appliances and contractors require separate budgets, while the final design fee depends on the agreed area, complexity and deliverables.

If you are buying an apartment, planning a renovation or improving your existing home, the useful question is not simply how much a designer charges. It is what the service delivers and which decisions must be resolved before work begins. This guide explains how to compare scopes and prepare a brief that can lead to a meaningful quotation.

Apartment interior design costs in Montenegro: three examples

The following calculations use the published AMV Design starting rate of €35/m². They are illustrations based on the studio's price guide, checked on 13 October 2026, rather than individual quotations or averages for the Montenegrin market.

Starting design-fee calculations, excluding VAT
Agreed design area Starting rate Illustrative starting fee
50 m² €35/m² €1,750
70 m² €35/m² €2,450
100 m² €35/m² €3,500

First establish what will actually be designed. Does the brief cover the whole apartment or only the living area? Will an existing bathroom remain unchanged? Is the terrace included? The area in a property listing should not automatically become the chargeable design area: the scope should be stated in the quotation.

Two apartments of the same size can require different levels of work. An empty apartment with reliable plans and unchanged services is a different assignment from a renovation involving custom joinery, layout changes and uncertain existing conditions. The starting rate provides an initial reference; the final fee follows a review of the information and requirements.

What does an interior design project deliver?

A useful project connects everyday use, appearance and execution. An inspiration photograph cannot tell you how wardrobe doors will open, where storage belongs or how services relate to the furniture. Read about our interior design service in Montenegro; the specific deliverables for your apartment should be listed in its quotation.

Layout and functional organisation

The first step is to check how the rooms work. In the living area, seating, dining, the kitchen and circulation need to coexist. In a bedroom, the bed, storage and access to the window require realistic dimensions. Confirm large furniture and joinery layouts before purchasing or manufacturing them.

Concept, materials and lighting

The concept establishes a consistent relationship between colours, textures, light and furniture. A finish can look different beside a large window than in a room with little daylight. Floors, walls, timber, stone and metal should therefore be considered together, alongside cleaning and maintenance requirements.

Visualisations and technical development

Visualisations help you understand the intended appearance before ordering, but they are not a complete instruction set for construction. Depending on the agreed scope, contractors also need dimensioned drawings, layouts and details. Ask which rooms, images, drawings and revision stages are included.

Do not automatically add every price-guide item together. Complete interior design, standalone 3D visualisation and standalone technical development are different services. Check what is already included in the package you are discussing and what would require a separate appointment.

Planning an apartment refurbishment budget in Montenegro

Separate design, construction and purchasing. One combined figure makes it difficult to see where adjustments are needed once contractor quotations arrive. A simple category-based budget gives you a clearer picture than an unstructured collection of product links.

  • Design: the agreed stages, images, drawings and specifications.
  • Construction: preparation, agreed services work, finishes, painting and installation.
  • Furniture and equipment: joinery, ready-made pieces, appliances, lighting and sanitary fittings.
  • Related costs: delivery, access, disposal and other items identified in quotations.
  • Contingency: a separate allowance appropriate to the property's condition and the extent of the work.

There is no dependable universal furnishing or construction total without a specification. A kitchen quotation depends on its arrangement, cabinets, fronts, hardware, worktop and appliances. Request prices for the same drawings and finishes before comparing suppliers.

Establish priorities early. If you cook frequently, a functional kitchen and task lighting may matter more than a decorative television wall. If storage is limited, a well-planned cupboard can be more useful than another occasional table. Allocate the budget around how you will actually use the home.

How to compare interior design quotations

A lower square-metre rate does not necessarily mean a lower cost for an equivalent finished project. One scope might include a concept and a few renders, while another also includes joinery drawings, lighting layouts and specifications. Compare deliverables before comparing the headline fee.

  1. Area and rooms: which spaces are covered?
  2. Stages: are layouts, concept, visualisations and documentation included?
  3. Revisions: how many review rounds are included, and what constitutes a changed brief?
  4. Programme: when is each stage delivered and what information must you provide?
  5. Implementation: are site visits, procurement support and contractor coordination separately appointed?
  6. Payment: are tax treatment, payment stages and additional services clearly stated?

Ask to see an example of the documentation scope as well as the imagery. For renovations, clarify how existing dimensions are established and how discrepancies found during work will be addressed. Reviewing decisions in stages helps avoid revisiting completed drawings unnecessarily.

Five decisions to check before work starts

1. Resolve the kitchen before finalising services

The sink, dishwasher, hob, extraction and sockets need to relate to a specific cabinet arrangement. Completing services first can restrict the kitchen you later choose. Coordinate the design with the relevant contractors before closing up finishes.

2. Check furniture against actual dimensions

A sofa that looks modest in a showroom may dominate your living room. Check circulation, door openings and delivery access as well as the furniture footprint. Custom joinery requires the agreed final site measurements before manufacture.

3. Match lighting to activities

A single ceiling fitting may not adequately support reading, food preparation and relaxed evening use. Plan lighting around tasks and atmosphere, then coordinate switches, outlets and controls before finishing work.

4. Choose materials for their intended use

Consider cleaning, exposure to water and everyday wear. Obtain manufacturer information and contractor confirmation about suitability and installation. Visually similar products can perform differently in the same location.

5. Distinguish a private home from a rental apartment

Family homes and guest accommodation may have different storage and maintenance priorities. Think about replacement, cleaning and how equipment will be used. Attractive imagery is not a promise of occupancy levels or rental income.

Examples from the AMV Design portfolio

The Žabljak Apartment visualisations show the relationship between kitchen, dining and seating areas. Look at circulation and lighting as well as materials. These images communicate the design proposal; they are not evidence of completed construction.

You can also explore Nero Collection and the wider AMV portfolio. References make discussions more specific, but your design should respond to your own apartment, budget and requirements.

What should you send to receive a useful quotation?

You do not need a final style or a complete shopping list. Start with the space, intended use and boundaries of the assignment. Send an available floor plan, photographs and a few references with a short explanation of what you like.

  • Location and approximate area to be designed.
  • Measured plans or existing documentation.
  • Whether the property is new or being renovated.
  • Intended use: permanent home, occasional residence or rental.
  • Furniture and equipment you want to retain.
  • A separate construction and furnishing budget.
  • Your target programme and any work already commissioned.

Add three short points: what currently frustrates you, what the new space should allow you to do and where you do not want to compromise. If reliable plans are unavailable, the next step is to agree how the necessary information will be obtained.

Apartment interior design in Montenegro: cost questions

How much does the design of a 50 m² apartment cost?

At AMV Design's published starting rate of €35/m², the calculation is €1,750 excluding VAT. This is an illustration of the design fee, subject to an individual quotation. Construction, materials and furniture are separate costs.

Does the design fee include furniture and contractors?

No: the design fee is not the purchasing or construction budget. Furniture, materials, installation and contractors require separate quotations. Implementation support is appointed according to the agreed scope.

Should I add the standalone visualisation and technical-development fees?

Do not automatically add all the price-guide services together. The complete interior design description includes visualisations and technical development, while standalone services are listed separately. Your quotation should specify the included deliverables and any additional appointments.

Can I commission only a kitchen or living room?

A clearly defined part of the apartment can be discussed as a separate assignment. A small or complex brief should not be assumed to cost simply its area multiplied by the starting rate. Connected spaces may be better developed together.

Is a render enough for renovation work?

A render illustrates the intended appearance but usually does not contain every construction instruction. Appropriate dimensions, drawings, details and contractor coordination depend on the work involved. Agree the required documentation before work starts.

Does AMV Design work outside Nikšić?

AMV Design develops projects in Nikšić and across Montenegro. Some discussions and document exchanges can be handled remotely. Measuring, site visits and implementation support are agreed for each project.
